Vitamins are an essential part of maintaining a balanced and healthy working metabolism and optimization of functioning within the human body. There are currently thirteen established vitamins which are divided into groups of being either fat soluble, or water soluble. The fat soluble vitamins which are vitamins that are stored within the fatty tissue of the body include vitamins A, D, E, and K. These vitamins can stay dormant within the body for days or even months being released into the bloodstream through the lymph system as needed and act to maintain structure of cell membranes and work in the synthesizing of certain enzymes. Water soluble vitamins on the other hand are vitamins that once ingested are immediately transported to their destination through the blood stream, then rather than being stored, are excreted out through urine once the needed amount has been put to use. Water soluble vitamins include all B vitamins as well as vitamin C.
