“Who does this belong to?” my father yells.
          	
          	My heart has fallen out of my chest and lies spasming at my feet.
          	
          	I open my mouth but no sound comes out. I try to pull away but I am a sinking ship in a tidewater.
          	
          	“This is a man’s item -” his words trail off as he grabs the cross. When he lets out an almighty howl I understand he’s read the inscription. “Where did you get this, you little fool?”
          	
          	When I fail to reply, my father slaps me so hard I see Orion.
          	
          	“Is there anyone on the property?” His grip has moved to my shoulders. He shakes me until the stars look like they are falling all over me.
          	
          	I swallow blood.

Congratulations to everyone who made it to the ONC shortlist!!! I saw some of my faves there but didn't see some of my other faves...so it was bittersweet. 
          
          I'm currently writing the penultimate chapter for The Rapunzels! It's nearly done, finally!!!! 
          
          And after that...a new project? A break? Binging on olives? Wine?

Beyond the gated area is a forest. My parents told us that is where the monsters reside. I wait for a rustle of leaves or the upsetting of dirt but never have I seen that. I cannot see beyond the trees. Perhaps that’s where the world ends.
          
          I hang my head. My hair dangles out the window like a ladder. Were my stranger below would he clamber up to save me? I turn back to him. No. He cannot save me. But I can save him.

          When she fiddles with his waistband, I want to vomit.

          No, he is mine! My insides are howling.

You lovely darklings who have finished your ONC entries, what are you doing now? Are you expanding your novella? Taking a break? Starting another story?
          
          I've written the rough draft of the next chapter for The Rapunzels and hope to edit and post it soon. I have three chapters to go after this, which means The Rapunzels is ON ITS WAY TO BEING FINISHED!!!! I have a bit more free time as of this week so I'm hoping to finish by the end of May (fingers crossed) and then finish reading the ONC entries on my reading list. :)

@Nyhterides it's probably because I've been stressed writing and working so now that the ONC is over, I just need some time off my pc and phone haha. Woaaah! 10 years ? And anime does have that effect where it just sucks you iiiinnnn hehe

When his shirt is low enough to expose part of his back I see it – deep black, covering from shoulder to lower back –  wings.

          My sisters yelp. They run out of the house leaving me all alone with the angel who’s about to come out of his deep slumber.

@Nyhterides Hi! That's awesome! My novel Labyrinth is a retelling of the nursery rhyme of Jack and Jill. At that time, I thought why not? Cause if Classics can be retold, why not nursery rhymes? LOL! It is said though that Jack and Jill is the real story behind the fall of Prince Louis the 16th and Marie Antoinette's ruling and the pail of [poisoned] water is a symbol of the written treaty [misfortune]. At that time, I learned of the other rhymes too ... like Humpty Dumpty is really a cannon ball ... when it was shot ... that's the reason it couldn't be put back together again! Of course,  as kids, we don't need to know that. I also want to do one on the hunchback of Notre Dame. To me, that fairy tale didn't really end on a happy note. Sure for the girl, but not for the hunchback, guess because he's disfigured and during those times, the disabled weren't hardly regarded. Imagine what Pia can do ... LOL! I guess I'm more of the writer who wants to take on subjects that aren't often looked upon. And as the poet, George Bernard Shaw once said, " I dream of things and ask ... Why not?" LOL!

@Nyhterides Hehehe... you read my mind my friend cause if I ever get back to my WIP on the retelling of classics ... I love to do a Cinderella story on what if it was the complete opposite. Yet in a different format. Cinder was a guy, he had step brothers who'd bully him. His mother married a man who despised him and it was a princess not a prince who fell in love with him. But like all my stories did they live happily ever after? I think NOT! LOL 
            
            I'll put Angel in my library.
