TL;DR: God is dead. Prove me wrong.

Hello, Wattpaders.

My username is vanityofvanities, but you may call me Van. 

I am an exchristian young adult living in the buckle of the bible belt.

How I became an exchristian is a long and complicated story. I had considered typing up the whole thing, sending it to a publisher, and doing things the old-fashioned way--but to be honest, I need some external validation to keep me motivated. My previous works of fiction and my real life intermingle in my story; my imagination was very real to me. This has made writing difficult; I can't decide if I should keep making things up or just tell the truth.

I still haven't quite decided. The goal has always been to write a novel, but maybe I'm just better at honesty.

I'll tell the truth. But not all of it.

I had another account, once; I even won a Watty Award. But I've chosen to start fresh. In making this new account, I am solidifying my new identity as a godless heathen. And, more importantly, I'm keeping my ACTUAL identity concealed. Not many people know that I've deconverted, and the People That Don't Know includes my boss, and I live in one of those states where people can fire you whenever they feel like it for any reason at all. Even worse than that--he'll get really annoying if I tell him I'm not a Christian. So I'm staying anonymous for my wallet and my sanity.

Characters in my memoir will also remain anonymous. I'll give them fun nicknames and fake physical traits so you can imagine them, but I won't implicate any real people.

If you are a Christian, please, by all means, don't let my blood be on your hands. Spread the Good News and message me, or comment on my story. I will do my best to reply to everything as quickly as I can.

And if you have a story about atheism or deconversion (or the opposite!), tell me about it! I'd be happy to read and comment.
