the sun.

she is the oldest, the wisest, the loneliest.

life needs her, but does she live?

she is so beautiful, so powerful.

she watched the universe take its first

breath,

maybe even kissed the air into it.

we look so small from where she is.

so small she can't see our bloody scars.

our graying skies.

the whites of our sharpened teeth.

we look better small.

perhaps the sun only loves us because it is

easy to love from far away.

the moon.

she was born with us and shares our

mangled secrets.

she knows our scars, but she bears them too.

she loves fully, ferociously, through the

night.

she watches slyly, not quite able to let us go,

during the day.

the sun fights the moon for just a glimpse of

us, a moment of us.

are we worth that?

even with all our mistakes, all our hurt,

they still seem to think that we deserve a

chance at light.

"you aren't alone."

i think that's what they're saying.

"you aren't alone!" they yell every time

the moon casts a shadow.

"you aren't alone!" they sing every night the

stars lead our way.

"you aren't alone and darkness isn't all there

is!" they scream every day the sun rises.

maybe we just need to listen.
