the majestic twelve

sebastian woke up in the backseat of a car. he sat up,  hissing in in pain as his head made contact with the car roof with a thud.

a window was open, which he noticed only when five popped his head in. he smiled when he saw the familiar yellow eyes peering blearily back.

"good morning, sleeping beauty," he joked. sebastian rolled his eyes and opened the door five had his neck through the window of, shoving him back.

he slid out of the car and helped five up, brushing off his shoulders.

when did i conk out? he asked.

five shrugged. "you were asleep when i came back out," he supplied.

memories flooded into sebastian's mind. vanya and five had gone into the boxing club luther boxed at, and he had opted to stay in the car after his last experience there.

"couldn't, uh, bring myself to wake you up."

sebastian ignored the last statement and raised an eyebrow. and how much sleep did you get last night?

he coughed and looked away. "i got some coffee around 2."

as soon as we're back at elliott's you better go right to bed, he scolded.

"yeah, whatever-"

five was cut off by a loud smash coming from the building in front of them. they looked up to see a hole in the wall, and luther peeking through.

vanya stormed out a few minutes later. without missing a beat, five remarked, "well, that clearly went well. ready to go?"

sebastian noticed the tension building and opened the back door he had just closed, pretending to look for something. while in there he found an unopened candy bar and grinned.

outside, vanya ignored her brother's comment completely and opened the driver's side front door. "i'm going back to the farm."

"hey!" he complained, stopping the door with his foot. "unacceptable, vanya. remember, we need to stick together."

"oh, why, so i don't end the world again?"

shit.

she knew.

five scoffed and looked back at the building luther lived in. "stupid..."

"were you even gonna tell me?"

"you know what? in my defense, no. all right? and can you blame me? when you get angry, shit blows up."

"great," she said flatly, glaring at five. "any other family secrets you failed to mention?" she demanded as she got into the car.

unfortunately, sebastian chose that moment to stand back up and shut the door, chocolate bar in his mouth. vanya's focus locked onto him, and he raised his hands in surrender.

five crossed his arms and continued talking. "a boatload, vanya, which i don't have the luxury of sharing them with the-"

vanya shut the door on him mid-sentence, causing the boy to knock on the window, seething.
