nostalgia tends to sting
melancholy, depressing, and pathetic
you long for something so far gone
it feels somehow magnetic
to go back to the child you were
where everything seemed poetic
before your innocence was stripped away
when people felt more empathetic
before you worried how others thought
your last worry was cosmetics
before you checked if your outfit matched
if your makeup was symmetric
i wish i could go back to the time i lost
appreciate it more
i long for the days i was happy and young
and for how things had been before
