"Be sure to call Mr. Bitmon about his appointment tomorrow. He will forget. And he will show up three hours late just like the last three times."

"Should I call his daughter instead?"

"Actually that's a great idea. Call Sophie and let her know about the appointment so he can at least have a ride here."

"Alright. Mrs. Holland is here for her teeth cleaning. Then after lunch Jenny Cabinet and her mother Hattie."

"Thank you, Jennifer." I waved at my receptionist. Jennifer was a forty-year-old woman who had a seven-year-old boy at home. She was a sweet woman with long red hair that she normally had braided or in a bun and she seemed to rather wear long skirts rather than pants. She also wore thick black glasses around her brown eyes. She wasn't a big woman but she wasn't small either, though according to Facebook she was a bodybuilder back in the day before her son was born.

As far as I knew her husband worked crazy shifts offshore so she was mostly a single mother, and it seemed like that was something she enjoyed, she had a lot of help from her mom which I'm sure she was thankful for.

I was itching to get to lunch. The kids and I all woke up late so I had to rush them to school because we'd missed the bus and Janet was already late for a doctor's appointment. So none of us got to eat breakfast. The only saving grace I had this morning was the fact Jennifer and brought coffee for us both or I would be a puddle on the floor.

I finished up my last client before heading down the stairs to start my hour lunch and was lucky enough the cafeteria wasn't all that busy. I bought my subway and sat at a far table next to a window to watch the traffic drive by.

I must have been too far into my thoughts because when I looked up again I was face to face with Scott, who was sitting across from me in his well-tailored suit looking at his phone like he didn't even know I was there. Which I guess was only fair seeing as I didn't know he was there. The only thing I could muster up was a lame "Hey." Followed by an awkward wave, with a hand I was tempted to slap myself with afterwards.

But it got his attention and he turned to me with a smile on his face as he put his phone down on the table. "Hey, I was wondering when you were going to come back to this planet. What were you thinking of?"

"Nothing really. Woke up late, Trying to will myself to stay awake."

"You party do yeah?" He flashed me that smile again with a small chuckle that couldn't help but mimic as I shook my head.

"No, I wish. Be a better excuse."

"And what is your excuse?" I don't know why. But a part of me didn't want to tell Scott about staying up late because I was arguing with my wife and that brown eyes that looked way to close to his eyes for comfort were haunting me in my sleep.

"Just a lot going on at home. What about you? You look like you got ran over by a bus." It was an exaggeration but Scott still didn't look as bright-eyed as he was yesterday. In fact, now that I was looking at him I noticed the dark blue bags under his eyes.

This made Scott laugh even more. "God no. Third day in a law firm with two cases already. I stayed up until two this morning and I'm pretty sure my blood is turning into coffee. I'm not totally sure how I'm going to survive."

"Wow, two cases already? Your resume must look pretty good for your boss to have that much faith in you."

"I think my boss has about, zero faith in me, but he is also my grandfather so I'm not all that surprised."

I raised a brow at him with a hint of a smirk, He had said it so casually it was like he'd expected me to know right out that his grandfather was his boss, meaning that his family owned the firm above my office. "That's a subtle way to say you're young, good-looking, and rich," I said with a chuckle before finishing off my sandwich and watching as it was Scott's turn to raise a perfect eyebrow.

"You think I'm good looking?" His grin was almost akin to a Chester cat like he had won a secret prize while I felt like I was about to drown.

"You skipped over young and rich."

"Well, its pretty obvious I'm young and rich." He motioned to his expensive suit.

"It's also pretty obvious that you're good looking."

"Do you tell every man you just meet about how good looking you find him Dr. Quinland?"

I could feel my face turning red before I could even open my mouth to reply to him. There was a thrill there thought with the harmless flirting. I'd never taken myself as someone who was good at it -flirting I mean- Even with Janet eighteen years ago when we'd first gotten together, I was never one who was big on flirting. I didn't think I was very good at it. I was rather tense actually, but right now sitting in the cafeteria with Scott I felt comfortable like I could spill my whole life story with him right here, right now. But the rational side of me wouldn't let me do that. I knew better.

Work was work, home was home. You did your best not to mix the two.

"Oh, shit," Scott mumbled getting up from the table, throwing what was left of his lunch in the bag he was given. "I've got a client coming in, in like two minutes. I've got to go. See you Dr. Quinland." He grinned, going on his way.

And he left me there, with that feeling in my stomach that I just couldn't let go of. And I was once again reminded of those brown eyes from my dreams.
