Sonic hit Shadow in the jaw, causing him to stumble back. Sonic didn't notice his quick recovery and lunged at him. Shadow stepped sideways and balled both of his hands together in fists, smashing them across his back. Sonic fell to the ground, gasping for air. Shadow glared at the blue hedgehog while moving his aching jaw.

"You shouldn't have accused me, Sonic." Shadow said. He raised his hand, opened his mouth to yell "Chaos Spear", but stopped. Sonic had the wind knocked out of him, and couldn't even get up. Shadow hated Sonic, but set aside his rivalry for his honor. Killing him now would be unfair. Besides, he wasn't worth his energy.

Suddenly, the bedroom lights flicked on. Sonic turned his head quickly, startled, but Shadow didn't so much as glance at the doorway. He knew Amy Rose was there, but didn't dare take his eyes off of the blue hedgehog.

Sonic cowered against the light and her irritated stare. He figured she was too tired to be shocked. She seemed more surprised when she saw Shadow in her room. She glanced back at Sonic and growled.

"I didn't expect you to swing by, Sonic." She spat out his name like it was pained her to even say it. She glanced once more at the black hedgehog. "Much less you, Shadow. How did you two even get in here?" Amy raised an eyebrow, waking up a little more. "And how did I get here? Am I dead?" She asked with too much seriousness.

Sonic tilted his head. I guess this is what Shadow meant when he said he went looking for her, Sonic thought. It still didn't answer his initial question. Sonic cleared his throat:

"Shadow was already inside when I came over to apologize to you," Sonic said. Amy glanced at Shadow, who was now looking at Amy. She can even make him apologize, he thought.

"Well, what brought you here Shadow?" She asked. Shadow, once again thinking of the correct answer, just shrugged. Amy cocked an eyebrow, throwing her wild quills to the left. She opened her mouth, but closed it again, like she realized something and caught herself before she said it out loud. Instead, she responded with an "Oh, I see."

Amy waved the boys downstairs. Sonic went first, not wanting his rival to be anywhere near his Amy Rose. Shadow wasn't complaining. He didn't like turning his back to the blue hedgehog for more than two seconds.

She gestured for them to sit at the two seater dining table. The boys complied. Sonic sat closest to Amy, who was pulling some ramen packages down from a shelf in the kitchen. Shadow sat farthest from her, but was facing her direction. He stared while she put a pot of while on her stove and waited for it to boil.

Sonic watched Shadow stare at his beloved. "Eyes off, Shadow."

Shadow didn't spare him a glance. "Don't you hate her, Faker?"

Sonic growled. No, he didn't hate her. How could he? But he surely must have come off that way if everybody thought that. It was all an act to keep himself from committing to something he couldn't contribute to. Now he realized that was the only life he wanted. He couldn't tell Amy that now, of course, since she seemed to still be cross with him. Friendship first, then he will confess to her.

Shadow didn't hear a response from his enemy. He continued to watch Amy stir the ramen and apply the packaging and extra seasonings. Shadow was feared, so he couldn't make any money or get a job. He didn't have any friends. He felt ashamed of this, but Amy set out a small portion of whatever she was cooking for the stray kittens in her Garden. Shadow would slip outside to grab bare minimum so the tiny growing animals could still be strong and survive. He had been starving, which was the only reason why he didn't leave the front door as soon as he stepped downstairs.

Amy finished and drained the ramen, noticing Shadows red eyes stare at her from the table. Amy made eye contact and smiled, but he didn't even twitch. She looked away. She knew Shadow stayed up in the big Apple tree by her house at night. She noticed him following her home and got frightened, but he's been doing it for months now. If he wanted to harm her, he would have done it by now. While everyone else believed Shadow was a monster, she knew he was a good person.

She separated the noodles into three separate bowls, setting two on the table in front of each of the hedgehogs and took one with her to the couch. Sonic picked up the fork she gave him. "Thanks Ames," he said. She didn't reply, turning Sonic's insides into ice. It hasn't been a day and it was already tearing him apart. He guiltily picked up his fork and ate quietly.

Shadow saw Sonic's sadness and smirked. She worked miracles. Sonic was always so egotistical, always thinking about what he wanted. It was satisfying to see him fall apart.

Amy was watching Shadow from the reflection on her TV. Wow, I've never seen Shadow smile before. It surprised her. She didn't feel the subtle blush growing on her cheeks. He resembled Sonic in many ways, making her have a semi-crush on Shadow as well, but was always too scared to see what he was truly like. She made a mental note to ask him to stay longer and make an effort to do that.

The hedgehogs finished at the same time. Sonic threw his bowl in the sink, walking towards the door. Seriously? Amy thought. He can't even rinse his bowl out?

She followed him to the door, where he stood waiting. Amy opened the door, stepping aside. "Goodnight Sonic. And please, come talk to me in the morning next time."

Sonic smiled genuinely. Yes, Amy did miss him, but she wanted to see the Sonic that everyone else saw. The quirky goofy hedgehog that made jokes threw parties. He could barely even look at her to say "hi". She was tired of crushing on his bad side.

Sonic glanced inside. "When is Shadow leaving?"

Amy shrugged, looking inside to find him drinking the broth with his spoon. Sonic had drank his from the bowl, and Amy didn't drink hers at all. "Whenever he gets done with that bowl. I want to make sure that he eats as much as he needs."

Sonic's face grew red. "Why do you care? He's evil, Ames. He's bad news for you. Let me stay until he leaves."

Amy blushed in anger. Shadow looked up and noticed them arguing quietly. He figured it was about him. He picked up on the conversation.

"The only bad news that I've ever been around is you, Sonic. I think you should leave before I make you."

Sonic wasn't going to let her make this mistake. "What are you going to do, Amy? The cops won't arrest me, and you can't force me out."

Amy's fists shook in anger. Shadow saw she couldn't fight him anymore. Sonic saw it too and smirked.

Shadow snapped.

He wasn't going to let this blue stray take away his happiness. Amy couldn't let him win. Shadow stood up and walked over to them. Sonic saw him and smiled. "Oh, were you leaving?"

And with that, Shadow punched him straight in the gut, sending him toppling out of Amy's house. Sonic gasped and looked up from the middle of Amy's front yard.

Shadow growled. "Until she says to, don't you dare come back." And he slammed Amy's front door shut.
