"Verkaluse."

"THE HIERARCHY OF the system stems from the Guardians to the Elven and Fae Folk, and lastly the water spirits," Mr. Ogustus continued, "Today we discuss the Prime guardians, the ones we call Angels and Fallen. Our Story begins the day the darkness came, it corrupted both mortal and immortal hearts, introducing the concept of sin and imperfection," he paused as he said this, eyes traveling around the classroom.

"Some Guardians managed to resist this darkness, though they were quite a few. The rest, the others are what are called the Fallen, Ancient, or daemons, anything of dark nature you may deem to name them. One of the most powerful of these guardians is called by many names. Devil, Diablo, Set, Hades- one name is most known, though I know none of you have heard before, his most notorious, Verkaluse." The name rolled off his tongue sounding both dark and as ancient as was being described.

I glanced over at Claire and even she looked uneasy.

"The earth was built-in dimensions," he began to explain as he walked, "the physical, the Spiritual, and the Shadow."

I jotted these three down in my notebook. With all the information that was being hurled towards us during these classes, it was very important that I at least had taken down a few notes so that I wouldn't forget anything.

3 dimensions, Physical, Spiritual, Shadow.

"The Physical is all that we can see around us, the lands, the seas and oceans, ourselves," his finger circled the class, as he spoke, walking slowly through the aisle whilst he taught, "The spiritual is a little bit trickier, it was meant for those that are not of mortal or natural creation, a place where the system thrived. It is why when one goes into a forest, you will not be able to see a Faery, or a leprechaun, or an elf."

My ears marveled at all that was being spoken. Leprechauns, he said?

"The last dimension is called the Shadow; it is one created by the darkness where the darkest creatures thrive. It is also a dimension that exists all around us, carried with the dark when the light is no longer there to guide."

I watched as he paused beside me and Claire in the middle of the aisle, looking out into the rest of the class, "the Shadow and the Spirit dimension are not meant for mortal's younglings, not even converts such as yourselves," he added.

There was a slight pause till a small voice was heard-

"S-So there is no way for mortals to see this dimension? Y-you said it's not meant for us, but that technically means it can be accessible to us but not recommended?" David asked, his tone rising with every word and an unsure look on his face as Mr. Ogustus's eyes settled on him, with a light huff.

I could tell he was getting a little bit tired of condescending blues.

Yep, Claire and I knew exactly how he was feeling seeing as we had one of our very own.

"In truth, a mortal or a convert can see the spirit and shadow realm," he concluded, "they call it opening your third eye," he stated, his eyes narrowing on David, "Some achieve this through years and years of meditation, whilst others simply to believe in something deeply enough, and still others, rare and unique are just born with an open third eye, a rarity but not too unusual."

"So like seers and fortune-tellers and stuff?" he asked looking up at Mr. Ogustus.

"To some extent, those of mortal blood that can see the future may tend to have this power and not those of Convert blood like the Golds whose powers of foresight should not be mistaken to the measly powers of human seers. You see, as a convert, you are naturally more accessible to your third eye, but since you are half-human, it is not recommended."

My eyebrows drew together at this.

"While there are a few who have managed to unlock their third eye, fewer have managed to control it," he paused as he said this, looking down at us, "Think of dimensions as rooms and third eyes as doorways. The Physical dimension should be thought of as the biggest room, having numerous doors that are left wide open, anything can enter and leave the physical realm, but the Shadow and the Spirit realm only have one door each.

The Spirit Realms door opens and closes around a specific time. It is inadvisable to enter the Spirit realm if you are unaware of the times the door closes and opens. However, if you somehow do, it is easy for you to walk in and out of the room. This can be achieved through meditation or soul-shifting. The Shadow Realm is trickier," he paused, leaning against his crutch, his tone thicker,

"Its door is always open, and is very easy to access," he explained intricately, making sure we got every word, "but it's a shifting door that locks from the inside, Open from the outside but locked in the inside. You cannot leave the Shadow Realm without the help of a shadow being- and for the good of us all, let us conclude that the price of such a ransom is hefty," he finished.

I gulped dryly at his explanation. A hefty price he said. Shadow beings. I was not ready for this dark side of history no matter how intriguing it seemed to be. I had heard of deals with the devil and somehow, I had a feeling that was where we were headed.

After a moment of silence, Mr. Ogustus turned back to hobble towards the board, teaching whilst he walked.

"You must also know that beings from the spirit realm and the Shadow realm access our realm quite easily. Though disguised most of the time, I can assure you more than half of you have encountered one of these beings, whether in your daily deeds or..." he turned looking slightly back at us, "in your nightmares."

A dark shiver danced up my spine at this. It kind of irked me to think that every time I had a nightmare, there could have been a certain kind of shadow being that had caused it. At least that was what I thought Mr. Ogustus was trying to say.

"When the Guardians corrupted, they were split into two, Light beings and Shadow beings. The majority lived in the dark void we call the Shadow Dimension and the rest remained in the Spirit realm. As Darkness spread over the earth, the people began to worship these Shadow beings who consequently lived off the need for power. Even in places where darkness had not touched, a shadow was claimed for itself, turning the people towards it, promising them wealth and health. One of the most famous stories was the tale of Count Dracula himself," Mr. Ogustus Chuckled at this, once again making me believe there was always some inside joke, he was telling that none of us were getting.

"You should know that once guardians were turned, they fed on the sacrifices of humans. It was a simple equation, the greater the sacrifice the greater the reward. The first is the sacrifice of wealth, then the sacrifice of flesh and blood, and lastly the sacrifice of one's soul, the greatest of all three. And so, I begin the tale of Dracula."
