Ashleigh came out and petted Fire. Fire whinnied frightened and laid his ears flat on his head and backed up behind me. Ashleigh smiled. I laid my ears flat. Sonya and Lightning and Ashleigh were startled of my sudden appearance. I scolded Fire,” What was that for! If you are an independent colt and you are mean you will 100% guaranteed to have a bad owner that will whip you until you die! Do you want that to happen to you?” I shouted. Fire startled said quietly,” no” I smiled and softly said,” Then next time, let Ashleigh pet you.” Fire smiled slightly and nodded. Sonya said,”Where did you learn that from?” I smiled,” My ma” Lightning smiled and said,” Your mom is quite smart then.” I smiled. It was great having my friends back. Ashleigh saddled me up and took me out. “Lets see if you’re still a good runner from all you’ve been through.” I sprinted as fast as possible. Again my speed felt like blurs surrounded me. I held my head lower then usual and noticed that even though I didn’t know what they were, I could see where the blurs were. I would never crash into a fence again! At least I got over the head shy though. Ashleigh proudly slowed me down. She said,” Today I was going to teach you to hold your head low so you can see the blurs better, but I see you just learned that yourself!” I knew that holding my head low kept more of the wind away from my face so I could see better. Ashleigh said,” Never hold your head any lower. You might fall.” I whinnied understandable of what Ashleigh had just said. Ashleigh turned me toward home and we galloped the rest of the way home.

When I got back I had learned that tomorrow I would be racing. I was so excited because I knew that racing with Ashleigh was pain free and fun. I neighed the news excitedly at my friends when I got back. Fire was the most excited. “I want to watch! I can’t wait until I can race too! Oh please can I watch daddy?” I smiled and said,” If it’s alright with Ashleigh.” I turned my head. Ashleigh was looking at us happily along with Joe. I turned back to Fire and said,” Maybe if you let Ashleigh and Joe pet you; they would take you to see me race!” Fire jumped up and down excitedly and sprinted, almost crashing into the fence over to Ashleigh and Joe. Sonya hugged me proud of my idea. I smiled. Ashleigh and Joe excitedly patted Fire. Later when Ashleigh and Joe left, Fire trotted back saying,” Can I go?” I smiled and said,” I’ll try my best to get Ashleigh to let you.” Fire smiled. The next day Ashleigh came up to lead me into the trailer. I neighed refusing to go. Ashleigh said,” Its okay Starfire. This will be fine.” I knew it would be fine but I wanted Fire to go. He deserved it. I neighed back at Fire. “Follow me Fire!” Fire who looked disappointed thinking he wouldn’t be able to go smiled and trotted over to me. I didn’t want to get his hopes up to high so I looked quickly at Ashleigh and whinnied. Ashleigh smiled. “You want to take Fire?” I nodded happily. Ashleigh smiled. I turned to Fire and told him to follow. I looked back and saw Sonya smiling. Fire followed me until we got to the truck. Fire stopped frightened. I neighed back to him,” It’s alright. Come on Fire. You have to come if you want to see the race.” Fire slowly came in afraid. I whinnied comforting Fire. The door shut and the engine started. Fire bolted around upset. I whinnied and said,” Calm down Fire!” Fire went as close to me as possible. When we got to the race Fire stayed closer to me then ever. The people were loud. Ashleigh took me to the front row stands. I told Fire,” You stay here. I’ll be on the field.” Fire smiled and nodded. “You’ll be alright. Joe and Ashleigh’s parents will be with you.” Fire neighed excitedly. I smiled and was led to the starting gate. Ashleigh mounted me. “ON YOUR MARKS! GET SET! GO!” Shouted the announcer louder then ever. I burst out of the gate and Ashleigh pulled me to 5th place. I heard the announcer say,” The famous Starfire is back! Will he win after being absent for so long? He was the meanest horse a human has ever seen for awhile! But now thanks to Ashleigh, Starfire is back quicker then ever!” I neighed happily remembering to keep my head low. As we reached the end I was able to go full speed. I went way faster then I did all the other races because now I knew where the horses were and I could dodge them. I went pass the finish line in 1st place. I looked back. The heard of race horses were far behind. I trotted to the winners circle and by then the heard of race horses were pass the finish line. Ashleigh was so proud of me. I heard Ashleigh shout,” I’ll reward you Starfire! You’ll see!” I saw Fire running ahead of Joe and Ashleigh’s parents over to me. I neighed at the excited Fire. I told him,” This’ll be you someday!” When we were loaded into the truck me and Fire talked about racing all the way home. When we got home Fire burst into talk about my race. Sonya smiled. Lightning like usual congratulated me. I smiled and neighed as I reared for my victory race. My family and Lightning neighed happily and reared. Ashleigh and Joe came out. I reared neighing happily to them. Ashleigh and Joe happily ran to us. Ashleigh grabbed my mane. I reared as Ashleigh flung on my bare back. This was the first time Ashleigh rode me without a saddle or reins. I reared happily as Ashleigh grasped my mane. I sprinted off as smoothly as possible to help Ashleigh stay on. Joe, Lightning, Sonya and Fire laughed. Fire sprinted after me full of play. Fire continued to chase me and Ashleigh. I and Ashleigh laughed as Fire neighed trying to catch up to us. Ashleigh’s dad came out to the field. He laughed as he saw us all having fun. Joe tried chasing Fire as Fire continued to race away. I wasn’t going fast so Fire can have fun being near us. I tossed my head up and whinnied,” Sonya! Lightning! Come play!” Sonya and Lightning laughed and raced after us. I saw a van and trailer park into Ashleigh’s driveway. I thought another visitor of Ashleigh’s. Ignoring the truck, we continued to play. Out of the corner of my eye a horse and man were coming toward the field. Continuing to ignore them, I turned my back to them running into the space farther then them. Ashleigh laughed looking back at Fire. I turned right. Ashleigh shouted,” Starfire! Look!” Ashleigh pulled my mane slightly. I halted. Fire crashed into my rump. Before looking up I whinnied laughing at Fire. Fire laughed too. Sonya and Lightning and Joe very tired walked up beside us laughing. I looked up. I never thought I would see those faces ever again. I reared excitedly. Ashleigh wasn’t expecting it and fell off laughing. I sprinted as fast as I could over to them. Now Fire started running behind as Ashleigh, Joe, Lightning and Sonya jogged behind. I tossed my head kicking my hooves up as high as I could. I stopped at the fence. My mother Dutches and my old owner Marve were here! Marve patted me saying,” You’ve grown so much! I never knew you could run o fast. I tossed my head excitedly. Fire shyly hid behind me. Marve tilted his head to look and said,” You have yourself the cutest foal Starfire! He looks just like you! I’m guessing that chestnut is the proud mother!” I nodded happily. I looked at my mom. She smiled at me and said,” I’m so proud of you! You have a wonderful foal!” I smiled and rubbed noses with my mom and said,” Thanks ma.” Ashleigh, Joe, Lightning, and Sonya soon were at the fence. Marve said to Ashleigh,” You better be taking good care of him!” Ashleigh smiled at the joke and said,” Believe me! I am.” I told Lightning, Sonya and Fire that this was my mother. Fire said,” You were my daddy’s mommy?” Dutches smiled and said,” Well where do you think he learned all his smartness from?” Fire and the rest of us laughed. Ashleigh and Joe continued to talk to Marve. Light much. My parents Lightning said,” I’m Lightning. I’m sure I said how smart you were awhile ago for of teaching Starfire so are gone.” Dutches said,” I’m sorry Lightning. Well I’m Dutches.” The two smiled at each other. Sonya stepped up and said,” I’m Starfire’s wife Sonya. Starfire had told little Fire here what would happen to independent mean foals.” Dutches smiled at me. I smiled back. I said,” I’m a racer.” Dutches smiled and said,” Prove that you’re fast enough to be a racehorse!” Even though Dutches was kidding I smiled and galloped as fast as I could around the field. When I returned Dutches had an expression of both shock and proud. Dutches sputtered,” Your wonderful! Even better then your father! Of if he wasn’t so busy racing you would have seen him when you were a little colt and right now!” I smiled. “Well we better get going.” Marve said loudly.” I asked Dutches,” Will I see you again?” Dutches said,” I’m sure you would.” I smiled. “Bye” Dutches replied,” its nice meeting you all! Bye” I rubbed noses with my mom one last time. Then Marve patted me and the two got in the trailer and left.
