Asher's Pov:

After dinner, everyone gathered in the living room to enjoy some dessert. Seizing the opportunity she had been waiting for, my persistent grandma finally set a date for me. She turned to Charlotte and asked if she would like to have dinner with me. My gaze shifted to Charlotte, awaiting her response. Her cheeks flushed a delicate shade of red, resembling a blossoming rose. Amid my inner musings, a stern voice echoed, reminding me of my past. What are you thinking, Asher? Don't forget how that woman used and discarded you. Guard yourself; never let your guard down for a woman. Charlotte agreed, and our dinner plans were confirmed.

After bidding a warm goodbye to the White family, my own family and I returned home. As we settled into the car, my mother's inquiries began.

"What do you think about Charlotte, Asher?"

"Miss White seems devoted to her work. I sensed that when she discussed her thoughts about our company."

My mother's tone grew sharper, exasperated by my response. "Asher, I'm talking about Charlotte, not Miss White, who is merely your employee."

"I don't have any particular feelings for her, Mom," I replied. My father intervened, his voice calm yet firm.

"Asher, it's time to move on. Dwelling on the past won't lead you to a better place. We should learn to let go of our painful memories before they consume us."

"Mom, please don't cry," I implored as I witnessed her tears. "I'm still the same person who wants you to cook for him, who wants to spend time with all of you. But now, I have responsibilities."

My mother's voice quivered with emotion, and her words unleashed the hurt she had kept hidden. "You may agree, but what about the little things that used to bring you joy? What about the young Asher who would smile at the smallest things, who would demand his favorite food from me? That Asher seems lost."

I felt the weight of her words, the pain she held within her. "Mom, please, let's not talk about this. I know I'm not the same, but it's not simple."

I avoided meeting her eyes. My grandma's authoritative voice broke the tension. "Tomorrow, you're going to dinner with her."

"Sure, Grandma, I'll have a dinner meeting with Miss White," I replied obediently. The ride back home was enveloped in silence, each of us lost in our thoughts. As I sat in my room, contemplating tomorrow's dinner, I couldn't ignore the growing realization that keeping Miss White from dismantling the walls I've built around my heart was going to be a formidable challenge. Her mere presence had already stirred a turmoil within me with just one encounter. What lay ahead was uncertain, and I couldn't help but wonder about the impact she would have on my carefully guarded world.

The following morning, I rose early and headed to the gym for my workout routine.

Once that was done, I changed and prepared for breakfast. As I descended the stairs, a familiar voice filled the air - the enthusiastic squeal of my little sister. Her presence always brought a smile to my face. I had always been protective of her and Issac.

"Hey Ash, I missed you!" she exclaimed with excitement, and I couldn't help but feel a surge of warmth. "Hello, my little fairy. How was your show?" I inquired. Her reply was filled with confidence, "It was amazing! I'm quite certain I've secured some great deals." I congratulated her, "Congratulations, fairy."

We settled around the breakfast table, and the atmosphere was filled with joy and laughter. My family was my refuge, and these moments were precious to me. Soon, it was time for me to head to the office. Upon arriving, I noticed the receptionist giving me suggestive looks. While I had considered firing her before, her flawless work record made it difficult to take action.

Making my way to my cabin, my secretary hurriedly approached me. "Boss," he said, "today you have a meeting at 10 with the board of directors, and then you have a dinner meeting scheduled with Miss White."

I entered the conference room, and the assembled group stood up as a sign of respect. "Hello, Mr. Knight. This is the annual report for this year," one of them said as they handed me a file. I quickly skimmed through its contents, my gaze then shifting towards the speaker with a piercing, disdainful look.

"Do you think I'm a fool, Mr. David? Do you believe you can manipulate me into parting with my money?" I retorted with a cold edge in my voice. My frustration was evident; it seemed that I was surrounded by incompetence. "I had hoped for a bit more intelligence. Instead, it seems I'm working with a bunch of fools."

Mr. David met my glare with a smirk, a sign that he was far from intimidated. He then spoke, his tone dripping with audacity. "Well, Asher, I did extract the funds. And you know why? Because you haven't given our sons a fair chance to compete for the CEO position."

I took a moment to process his words, my anger simmering beneath the surface. After a brief pause, I addressed the room, my voice unwavering. "Very well, let's settle this. How many of you truly believe that your sons can outperform me?" I glanced around, only to see no hands raised except for Mr. David's.

"Do you see that? That's a clear majority," I stated, my confidence unshaken. I motioned for one of my bodyguards to step forward. "Take him to the basement."

Mr. David's face contorted with disbelief and fear. "Where are you taking me?" he shouted, desperation in his voice. "Let me go, Asher, or I will ruin you!"

I leaned in close, my voice low and dangerous. "Only if you're alive to do so. And I don't leave those who stab me in the back to roam freely."

As he was led away, the tension in the room lingered. It was a stark reminder that I was not to be trifled with, and those who dared to cross me would face the consequences.
