Walking down the stairs together as they both laughed uncontrollably, Gina couldn't help but observe how beautiful they both looked. She couldn't help but feel so encouraged to see her little boy she loved so much enjoying life once again, laughing, smiling, living, simply living. Elijah wasn't one of those who smiled often, but next to this girl he couldn't help but smile again and again as if that was his favorite thing to do.

"Dinner is ready!" She finally decided to speak, breaking their little sweet moment.

Elijah walked to the dining table that was perfectly made with Rachel following behind him. Three plates were placed on the big table making him feel anxious about eating with his father who was going to be home anytime soon and his friend, Rachel.

"Is he coming back tonight?" Elijah asked, his expression serious as he waited for her answer.

Sometimes Mr Bornman had to stay at work all night because he had too much work to do. And strangely, those nights are always Elijah's favorite.

"No, he isn't. He called to inform me that he was going to stay a little bit longer in his office to finish some work he has." Gina said before placing some clean glasses on the table.

"Or maybe he's just lying so he can spend some time with one of his mistresses." Elijah added before pulling the chair for Rachel to seat.

Gasping at his words, Rachel sat silently, preferring not to introduce herself in a business that isn't hers. But when it comes to Gina, she couldn't help but blush as she felt disgusted at the thought of Mr Bornman having mistresses. To her, he was one of the greatest men that had way too much respect for himself.

"Don't say such things!" She whispered.

"I'm just saying the truth, Gina." He said before taking the empty seat next to Rachel.

"The smell is so inviting! I'm sure that it's delicious, Gina." Rachel suddenly spoke, trying to calm down the situation and change the subject to something less uncomfortable.

Smiling at her kindness, Gina thanked her before asking them to serve themselves. It was pasta, the way Elijah liked it with blistered cherry tomato. Gina sat with them, taking Mr Bornman's seat as she served herself some pasta too. Before they could start eating, Rachel stopped them.

"Would you mind if we close our eyes for a short prayer to thank God for the food?" She asked.

Surprised at her question, Elijah shifted at the sound of prayer. Gina on the other hand, couldn't help but like Rachel even more.
