When Ryan pulled up to the house, I picked up chucky and swung the door open. I could feel Ryan's gaze from the other end of the driveway, not wanting to look up. I kept my head down.

"Hey. " I said as I opened the car door, sitting down. He didn't say anything, but I knew he wanted to.

Chucky sat on my lap as I put on my seat belt.

"You okay? " I said, not looking at him.

"What the fuck happened to your face? " He said, I sighed.

"Nothing, I'm fine, let's go. " I said quickly. He gently put his hand on my forearm.

"No, seriously, what happened? Was it Ts guys? " He asked, he sounded genuinely concerned.

I didn't like people touching me, but I didn't push his hand away.

I looked down at chucky, his face frozen in his doll form. I could see the glint in his eye. I shook my head and looked at Ryan. I was kind of shocked at the softness of his face. Something I've never seen on him before.

"An old friend, we met up, and things went sideways, no issue. " I lied, giving him a small smile. I'm hoping he'd let it go.

He stared at me, I knew he didn't believe it, but he slowly nodded and put the car in gear.

I kept my gaze out the passenger window, watching everything go by. When we stopped at a red light, a random passersby looked at me, giving me a weird look, I remembered my face.

Not wanting anything negative attention, I smiled. The man smiled back, giving me a nod.

"So uh, when we get there, don't mind the others. They can be quite loud. "

His voice caught my attention, making me look over at him.

"Others? " I questioned. He chuckled.

"It's quite a big group. There's runners like you, those are the ones to avoid. "

I smirked.

"I've never been one to avoid my own kind, we're runners for a reason. " I said. He laughed.

"Yeah, that's true, I suppose if you're looking for new friends, go right ahead. " He chuckled again.

I smiled and looked back out the window.

The shack turned out to be a warehouse outside the city. Immediately, I felt unsure. I looked down at chucky, slightly turning him so he could see it the window. Since he was facing away from Ryan, Chucky stared, moving his eyes, shifty.

He looked up at me and raised his brows, I did the same. Keeping it low-key.

"Ah, I didn't realize it was a warehouse, seems sketchy. " I joked. Hoping he wouldn't take it to heart. He laughed.
