yanno i just generally have a problem with love potions (and how to write them, i literally had to look armortentia up to get this title)
i have questions
how does it work?
would an aromantic person still fall in love if they took it?
or would a gay person fall in love with someone of a different gender?
basically it just makes you obsessed with someone right?
so you wouldn't actually be in love?
also i kinda have a problem with all the HP headcanons surrounding amortentia
like, people literally only smelling the person they (often unconsciously) have a crush on?
that's canonically incorrect
you smell things you like
and if you have a crush/are in love you also smell that person
for example harry smells his broomstick, fire i think? some other things and in the background something he can't really identify and that's ginny...
also the headcanon with aro folks not being able to smell anything? bad, 0/10
we'd just smell nice things!
and it would probably even have an effect on us - it would make us (depending on how strong the potion is maybe unhealthily) obsessed with someone for a limited amount of time, that's it!
to end this on a happy note i'm just gonna go ahead and list what i'd probably smell, comments yours if you want!
- when it's at night and raining
- also just water in general (like the ocean and rivers)
- melted chocolate
- new books when you put you nose really close
