Sultan's POV

It was lovely to see her blush. I didn't want to put my hopes high. She might reject me again and that would be too bad for my heart: Serena wanted freedom in her life. Staying under the web of lies, politics and betrayal in my palace was not an ideal life. Even though you are adorned with all the possible riches, marrying me would be like living inside a gold cage. Therefore I decided to ensure that my heart stays protected. I had already lost my father and was almost about to break relations with my brother. There are a very few people in my life who are close to me. I didn't want to lose someone like her. Unlike others, she was fearless to point out my flaws and the first one to push me towards what was right. I become a different person around her. I become a better person around her.

We both commenced towards the location that Mehmad had told us. We landed up standing outside the huge house of Rehzada, who was one of the richest landlord of the city.

We knocked his door. A man with an imposing height and weight stood in front of us. He had a long beard and his belly was huge. He looked powerful. His height matched with Sultan's. He looked at us inquiringly. His face looked irritated. As if we had disturbed him from a sleep.

"Who are you and what do you want?" he asked. For some reason, he reminded me of the Vasir. Do you know what happened to him? I had punished him with 20-year imprisonment. Though it gave me immense emotional pain to punish him, I wanted to set an example for the others that being in a powerful position doesn't give anyone a right to harass a less fortunate person.

" Huzur, we want a job. We are the peasants from the neighbouring village." my so-called wife spoke in a helpless tone.

"Why aren't you employed in your village?" he asked us. He seemed to he suspicious.Rude. He didn't even ask us to come inside his house. Perhaps he was not interested in providing us with the jobs.

"Sir, a few days before, our master met with an accident and left the world. So the peasants like us became unemployed. We decided to leave the village and search for employment someone else." she said.

I decided to let her speak. I just wanted to observe. All I could see was the huge house of Rehzada. Behind his house, there was a huge land. There were quarters for the servants adjacent to his house. This man was beyond rich!

"Okay okay I give you the job!" he said with frustration. "You both can go to the fields that are behind this house. You can meet my head servant Saheer. He will tell you what you are required to do!" he spoke and turned around towards his house.

He closed the door on our face. Not before mumbling "That stupid ruler Queen took away all my free slaves! Now I will have to hire paid labours!"

I looked towards Serena. Instead of feeling hurt by the insult, she seemed to be proud. She snickered at me.

"Even though he is rich, his thoughts are petty. Besides, who cares what others think?" she laughed as we advanced towards the fields.

Good heavens! How can someone be like that? I wondered if emotions had any effect on her. If I had any effect on her? A few minutes ago I saw her blush at a slight comment of mine. And now, she doesn't care about what people think of her!
