Chapter 12 || The Rule ||

"What's the news, Agatha?"

"I'm sorry I couldn't, your highness"

"What did you do?"

"I tried killing her by pushing a cart down the street she was walking on"

"Then?"

"Dylan pulled her aside and saved her"

Clarissa stood up from her chair angrily and said,

"Enough is enough, Agatha".

"I'm sorry miss"

"I give you one last chance, Agatha. You must kill her or I shall have your life".

"Sure, your highness"

Clarissa sat down on the chair and crossed her legs, one over the other. Agatha asked,

"Your highness, can I ask you something if you permit me to?"

"Go ahead".

"Why do you want to kill her? We can rather warn her and order her to get out of the kingdom"

"Oh, Agatha! Your mother didn't tell you, did she?
Come a bit closer"

Agatha walked a few steps closer and Clarissa, in a hushed tone whispered,

"When your mother was my maid, I killed one of the previous kings of Amber Cove"

Agatha was bewildered and stepped back. Clarissa then said,

"Now, it's not a big deal for me to get rid of a commoner, is it?"

Agatha nodded her head from side to side, gesturing that it was a no.

"Now get going, Agatha. I don't want to hear the same from you again"

"For sure, your highness"

Agatha curtsied to the queen and walked to the door, unbolted it and went out. She went through the hallway into her quarters, bolted the door and sat on the cot and her mind was frightened and shocked. If she didn't kill Anna, it would be for sure that she wouldn't be alive.

Anna went back home, trying to process what had just happened at the market. She pushed open the door of her house and entered in. Ella and Alice were seated at the table, waiting for Anna. Anna went and sat on the chair and Ella said,

"Where had you been, Anna?"

"I went to meet Julia, ma"

"We were thinking of when Alice can get married..."

"How about the coming spring? We will have enough time to prepare for the wedding too"

"Sounds fine. Let's think about it"

Then Anna headed to the room and just lied down on the bed, thinking about what had happened. Alice entered in and Anna sat on her bed. Alice took a seat too and Anna narrated everything that happened at the market to her. Alice then said,

"So, do you love him"

"You too, Alice?"

"Anna. You aren't able to see the glow and sparkles in your eyes whenever you hear his name and that doesn't mean you can hide it from the others and especially from the ones who know you well"

Anna started to blush and she didn't utter another word and just lied back down on the bed. She thought to herself:

Did her eyes really sparkle and glow when she heard his name?
Did she really love him?
Most importantly, did he feel the same?
