Lisa quickly tried to make it right. "Of course not. Jungkook just might not be able to hear you. I can help you relate your thoughts to him."

Old Mr. Kim waved dismissively at her. "He responded quite quickly when I said for you to have a divorce."

He stood up, holding onto his cane, and walked toward the study.

Jungkook got up. Lisa looked at him and said, "Don't worry. I'll be waiting for you outside."

Jungkook acknowledged her softly and followed Old Mr. Kim into his study.

Inside the study, there were bookshelves made out of redwood, and Chinese ink paintings hang on all the walls. There was a hint of ink in the air.

Old Mr. Kim walked over to his desk and sighed when he looked over at Jungkook, who was standing there, looking at him blankly.

"My granddaughter likes you," said Old Mr. Kim to Jungkook. "But I don't."

Jungkook gave Old Mr. Kim a quick look and lowered his eyes.

Grandpa doesn't like him.

Old Mr. Kim said, "Do you hear what I am saying?"

Old Mr. Kim had done a lot of research in the area of autism ever since he had found out that the Lu family's second son was autistic.

The lower end of the spectrum is alright, but Jungkook was obviously on the higher end of the spectrum. Nevertheless, after the few interactions he had with Jungkook, things didn't seem as bad as what he had read.

Jungkook pinched his lips shut a little and said slowly, "I can hear."

Old Mr. Kim nodded. "Do you know why I don't like you?"

Jungkook looked up and looked at Old Mr. Kim for a few seconds before looking away.

"Because you are not like the others, and you can't make Lali happy." Old Mr. Kim didn't beat around the bush. He was as blunt as one could be. "You won't be able to take care of Lali when she is sick. Instead, you will need her to take care of you.

"You can't share her problems when they arise but will need her to help you resolve your issues.

"She needs to be doted upon. Can you do that? You look more like the person who needed to be doted upon.

"Other husbands will make money to support their wives. You are from a wealthy family, but this is your responsibility as a man. However, you won't be able to do that either."

Old Mr. Kim pointed out all of the problems. Yes, his granddaughter liked Jungkook right now, but what about later in time? Would she have a change of heart?

As the saying goes, like is easy, but getting along is difficult. Especially when Jungkook was not like any other normal person. One would need a lot of understanding and patience to be with him. So just how long could his granddaughter do this for? How long could she put up with Jungkook?

All these were reasons that he objected to his granddaughter being with Jungkook. Young people only think about love, not the future.

Jungkook looked at Old Mr. Kim blankly. His lips pinched shut so tightly that they were pale. He was trying very hard to process and understand what Old Mr. Kim had just said to him.

"Do you understand what I have just said?" Truth was, Old Mr. Kim didn't have any expectations that Jungkook would understand him.

"Take care of Lili." Jungkook's low and hoarse voice rang in the quiet study.

"Take care of issue me."

"Dote on Lili."

"Earn money to support Lili."

Jungkook had heard them all, understood them, and committed them to his memory.

There was surprise and less displeasure in Old Mr. Kim's face when he looked over at Jungkook. "All you can do is to repeat what I have said. If you truly understand them, you have to act upon them in the future."

Jungkook gave Old Mr. Kim a quick glance and forced an "Mmm" out from his throat.

Old Mr. Kim did not give Jungkook any more hard time. "Forget about that. I'll be happy if you can just take care of yourself."

He waved at Jungkook. "You can go now."

Jungkook pinched his lips shut. His tone was serious and stubborn. He repeated, "Dote on Lili me."

He finally left the study after he said that last thing.

Behind him, Old Mr. Kim's solemn and mechanical look softened some.
