Chapter 14: Waking Up

The next day, I woke up without a single hint of exhaustion. In fact, it felt as if a great weight had been taken off my shoulders, and it was all thanks to yesterday's events.

'Now that I'm remembering it, I'm kinda embarrassed about it.'

When I remembered how she pampered me, the questions that I asked her, how she answered every single one with her love, and the last thing I said to her before passing out... I couldn't help but roll around in embarrassment.

'Why did I call her an idiot!!! Why did I act like such a tsundere!!!! AAAAAAAAAGGHHHH!!!!'

Thankfully, Mika wasn't around to see my tantrum, otherwise I would've been left with an even bigger embarrassment. After a few moments of wallowing in regret, I finally got everything out of my system. I took in a few deep breaths and calmed myself down.

'Haa... Phew... It's alright, it must be embarrassing for her as well, she wouldn't bring it up... right?'

I refused to believe otherwise for my own sanity. Convinced with my poor excuse, I got up from the mattress and noticed a sticky note on top of my phone.

"Come upstairs when you wake up, I'll make you a fresh meal! -Mika"

'Upstairs? By myself?'

Usually she would come downstairs with my meals to make sure I wouldn't have a chance to leave. But now she's telling me that I could come out by myself? Additionally, she had left my phone that she'd kept on herself all this time beside me.

'I guess she really meant what she said, huh?'

The trust that stemmed from her love had finally sprouted, all according to my plan. Now I'll be able to move freely around the house instead of being stuck down here all day.

'Now, all that's left is to make my escape...'

For some reason, I didn't feel that excited about the progress I've made with my escape plan. In fact, my mood had soured instead. The two conflicting interests I have are giving me headaches.

'...Let's just go upstairs for now, maybe my mind will clear up.'

I put those thoughts in the back of my mind and started going up the staircase. Standing in front of the closed basement door, I reached for the doorknob and opened it.

The door opened effortlessly. It was a foreign sensation for me. I'd tried to open this door multiple times whenever Mika left for her streams, but it had always remained locked.

'She really trusts me, huh?'

I couldn't help but smile, trust was a feeling that I didn't have the luxury to appreciate in the past. Maybe I've received such feelings before, but all I've ever done was take advantage of it for my escape.

'...Will it be the same this time?'

The thought of betraying Mika's trust crossed my mind. I've betrayed others' trust before, so why am I hesitating now?

'Shit... What am I doing...'

The tricks and schemes that I used to take pride in disgusted me instead, but it was all that I've ever known. Unsure of my own feelings, I decided to shake it off and head towards the kitchen.

When I arrived at the kitchen, Mika was already there washing some dishes. She spotted me and immediately called me out.

"Finally decided to wake up, sleepyhead?" she spoke to me in a snarky manner.
