I see Zach and his parents standing in my doorway, and I give him a small smile. Just as I'm about to go over and say hi, Megan pushes me out of the way.

"Hi Zach!" Megan says, a little too cheerfully if you ask me.

"Uh, hey Megan," Zach replies.

I look down at my feet, trying to ignore his gaze. Unbothered by his almost annoyed response, Megan continues the conversation.

"So, I was wondering if you're going to Sofia's party tomorrow night?" she asks.

"Yeah, I'm going to go for a little while," he says.

"Awesome!"

I ask to the kitchen, I'm not about to stand there and watch Megan flirt with him. Kill me now.

A little while later, Megan and Zach walk into the kitchen.

My dad and Zach's parents make their way into the dining room. "Megan, come set the table," Dad calls. "Maddie, why don't you give Zach the grand tour."

I roll my eyes. "It's not exactly a 'grand tour,' it's just our house."

"Enough with the attitude, go." he barks.

"Dad, chill." I mumble, walking up the stairs with Zach beside me. He smiles at me, as he catches what I said.

"What? I ask.

"Nothing," he replies.

"Well, here's the hallway. Beautiful, right? Here's a door, here's another door. Oh look, a window," I say, stifling a laugh.

"Nice tour," Zach says sarcastically, clapping his hands slowly. "You're such a great host."

"I know, right," I say.

"Maddie!" I hear my dad yell.

I sigh, "I don't want to make him more angry, let's go."

"Why does he always yell at you?" Zach asks, a confused look on his face.

"It's complicated," I mumble. "Let's just go eat."

Zach hesitates, but follows me down the stairs and into the kitchen.
