"Maddie eat" my dad says angrily
"I'm not hungry" I protest
"I don't care, eat" he demands
"Maddie, just eat" Megan says quietly
I shove a couple bites of food in my mouth angrily
"Maddie," my dad says, "I'm only trying to help you"
"Yea sure" I say sarcastically
"Go upstairs" my dad yells
"No" I protest
"Don't have an attitude with me, go upstairs"
"No" I say again
"Last chance Maddie, go upstairs"
I sit silently,
"Okay we're doing this the hard way" my dad says
He walks over to me and picks me up, he walks up the stairs. He sets me down on my bed, "you're grounded"
"No I'm not" I demand
"Don't argue with me"
"I will argue with you, this isn't fair"
"You need to eat Maddie"
"I'm trying okay! I'm trying so hard you have no idea. I work so hard but it's never good enough for you. Im never as good as Megan. Im always the worst. It hurts dad, it hurts to always be second best when I try my hardest. It hurts a lot, but I keep it to myself so it doesn't hurt anyone else." I'm screaming, tears streaming down my face.
"Maddie," my dad says softly, wrapping his arms around me
"No" I scream, "don't touch me, just leave me alone"
He leaves the room, I fall to the floor sobbing. I run my fingers through my hair, I can't do this. Zach. I grab my phone.
"Zach please I need you" I sob
"I'm coming Maddie, it's gonna be okay" he says calmly
"No it's not" I can't control myself
A couple Zach walks into my room. He sits next to me and I lean into him.
"Everything I do is wrong" I sob into his chest
I feel Zach's hand left my chin up,
"Look at me" he says,"your not wrong, okay? I know it's hard-"
I interrupt him, "I'm never as good as Megan. I'm not smart enough, I'm not pretty enough"
"Maddie your beautiful," Zach whispers, "inside and out, don't let someone tell you you're not. I'm not the only guy that notices. You have to believe in yourself, you're amazing."
I sniffle, "really?"
Zach smiles, "yea, you don't see it but I do. You don't need to be like Megan. You just need to be you, that's beautiful. I don't want you to be something your not"
