Connor's POV
"Connor?" I opened my eyes and I sat up. I saw (Y/n) standing there. She looked a little nervous and I could see the sadness in her eyes.
"(Y/n)? What's wrong?" I asked. She looked at the ground.
"I-I...can't sleep." She muttered. I knew she'd had a nightmare. I was beginning to pick up that she had them often. I got up and I took her hands in mine.
"It's alright. We can stay up if you like."
"N-no, I...well..." I listened to her as she spoke softly.
"What?" I asked.
"I was wondering...could you...stay with me? J-just for tonight!" I smiled. I was about to bring her back to her room, but she stopped me. "Can we stay out here?" I didn't know why she preferred the couch, but I wasn't going to say no. I laid back down and she laid down too. I held her as she laid on the couch beside me. She was so close to me. I felt my heart beat faster and I knew I was blushing like an idiot. She yawned and I felt her bury her face into my chest. I blushed harder, but I just held her ever so slightly tighter.
"Better?" I asked.
"Y..yeah." She said softly. She was a little hesitant to admit it, but I knew that she was feeling better. She was more relaxed and she wasn't shaking. I made sure she was warm. I turn up my heat signature just a little and after a moment I heard her hum slightly. "Thank you."
"I told you'd I'd be here," I replied. "What was your nightmare about?" I asked.
"You knew..." She muttered.
"I can tell when you lie, (Y/n). You know that."
"Yeah, but...it wasn't exactly a lie." I sighed.
"Yes, well...I can still tell when you're upset." I said. She sighed.
"I...I had a dream that I died and...it was just so strange. I don't know why I have these dreams. I want them to stop, but how can I control that?" She said. I thought about it.
"Maybe it's just because so much has happened. You need to relax and have some fun like we did today. It'll be alright. I won't let anything hurt you again, okay?"
"Connor, I know how you feel, but...I'm not ready to be like that." I frowned.
"That doesn't change the truth," I told her.
"I know, but...I just want to feel like a normal person. This isn't exactly normal for friends if you didn't pick up on that."
"Then why did you want it? I asked. She paused.
"I...I guess since you're the only one here...I thought...I-I thought..."
"You don't want to be alone, do you?" She said nothing for a long time. Then, I heard what sounded like crying. I pulled back and I saw tears running down her face. "Hey, don't cry. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-"
"N-no." She said. "You're...you're right, okay?" I looked at her as she started talking again. "You're right. I don't like being alone. I...I miss having somebody around, but...how can I trust any of that after it's done this?"
"Why do you still cling to him?" I asked.
"He was my life." She admitted. "When my family died...he was there for me. I grew too attached and when I found out...I just couldn't take another loss. It wrecked me." I was stunned. "There, now you know everything." I pulled her in closer and she let me keep her there.
"I know you've been through a lot, but holding on only hurts more doesn't it?" I asked.
"I can't just forget it." She muttered.
"I know. I can't change everything that's happened, but I can still be here now." I told her. She didn't say anything for a moment. "I know you still don't trust me fully, (Y/n)," I said. She tensed. "I can still see it in you. You still see me as an android. I know that's what I am, but...I promise I'm not lying when I tell you these things. Whatever you see in me...I just want you to feel safe around me. I want you to be happy. That is the truth." She said nothing for a while. I thought she had fallen back asleep until she cuddled closer to me.
"I'm sorry." I smiled sympathetically.
"It's alright. You have nothing to be sorry for."
"I'm glad you're here, Connor." She told me.
"Get some rest. You need it." I replied. She relaxed again and I heard her yawn once more.
"Night, Connor."
"Goodnight, (Y/n). Sleep well."
