PLAIN PORRIDGE

As if on cue, Charles walked through the door, his presence filling the room with the smell of delicious food. His eyes beamed with pride as he approached the bed with the food he got for her. Lana's stomach rumbled at the sight and aroma wafting in the air. She couldn't help but wonder what delicious delights her dad had brought for her.

With a beaming smile, Charles placed the tray before Lana. Her anticipation heightened as she lifted the lid, only to find a plain bowl of porridge. Her disappointment must have been evident, as she glanced at her parents, who exchanged a knowing glance.

Seeing her daughter's pout, Kathleen leaned closer, brushing a gentle hand across Lana's cheek. "Sweetheart, remember, you're not quite ready for all those delicacies just yet. Your body needs some time to heal, and plain food is what the doctor ordered."

Lana's eyes began to well up, her disappointment mingling with the frustration of being confined to the restrictions of her illness. She longed to indulge in the same flavors her parents were savoring. Sensing her daughter's emotional turmoil, Kathleen held her hand tightly, her voice filled with compassion.

"But, my darling," Kathleen whispered, "I promise you that once you've regained your strength, we will have a feast fit for a princess. I'll prepare all your favorite dishes and satisfy every craving you've ever had."

Lana's pout slowly transformed into a glimmer of hope as she visualized the array of mouthwatering delicacies that awaited her. Perhaps it was worth waiting for and taking the necessary steps toward recovery. With a renewed smile, she squeezed her mother's hand.

Charles, observing the interaction between mother and daughter, couldn't help but feel a deep admiration for Kathleen's ability to comfort and guide Lana through these challenging times. He knew that in Kathleen's capable hands, Lana would regain her vigor and spirit.

Breaking the silence, Charles placed a plate of fragrant food before Kathleen, acknowledging her commitment to supporting their daughter's recovery. "And for you Kathleen", he said, "Thank you". The plate overflowed with an assortment of delicious treats, captivating Kathleen's senses.

Together, they sat by Lana's side, eating their respective meals, with Lana's laughter filling the room.
